A brief history

Ottawa, December 2008

Holding that every individual owes something to their community;

Drawing on the deepest sources of African wisdom, and guided by the universal principle of solidarity between peoples and communities;

Nationals of the Democratic Republic of the Congo living in the diaspora met in Ottawa, Canada, and agreed to found a not-for-profit association for charitable work and community mutual aid.

Our legal standing

The association received its letters patent as a charitable organization on 25 May 2009.

What the name means

Amani Kwetu — peace in our home

This is not a distant or abstract peace. It is the peace that begins in a classroom with a roof, in a window repaired, in a family that regains a measure of safety.

The name carries both the ambition of the association and its modesty.
